Goodbye 2014…

2014 was an exciting year for FormDecor Furniture Rental. From special inventory to nationwide shipping, it’s been a year of new opportunities to better serve our clients. Below you’ll find a few of our 2014 highlights!

  • Nationwide Shipping
    • No limits. While it’s not our motto it might as well be! This year we took the breaks off our shipping procedures and introduced our specialized nationwide shipping where we partner with trusted carriers to deliver the best furniture to your event or production no matter where you are.
  • Dwell-on-Design 2014
    • Official Furniture Provider of Dwell on Design has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it? We thought so. June 2014 found us as an official sponsor of Dwell on Design where we had an opportunity to exhibit and provide furniture for some very special places including the Delano VIP Lounge and the HGTV Lounge.
  • 66th Primetime Emmy’s Green Room
    • TV never looked so good! Working with James Pearce Connelly, our furniture found it’s way into the 66th Primetime Emmy Award’s official Green Room. Beautiful and understated, Connelly’s design was featured on its own web stream behind-the-scenes!
  • RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 6
    • Another day, another slaying the competition! This last season of RuPaul’s Drag Race was wild from start to finish and we were proud to sponsor the #FormDecorLounge.
  • New Website Design & The Designer Space
    • Springtime brought a new look and a new addition to the suite for FormDecor online tools. FormDecor.com was relaunched with a new look and user experience while we rolled out the Designer Space to help plan your events down to the micro-detail of your rental furniture.

The Look: Seeing Double

On the surface, this vignette looks like something we could find on a James Bond set, but it’s a look anyone can easily draw inspiration from for your next design. Truth be told, that’s what FormDecor Furniture Rental’s inventory is all about.  While everyone has a different style, FormDecor team members, Mike and Eric, bring theirs out front and center in this mod lounge area suitable for a green room or VIP space. Using a modular coffee table as the focal anchor, we see a pleasing symmetrical design echoed on each side.

Q&A with the President

FormDecor. What does that really mean? In a literal sense, we want to give form to your décor. Whether it’s through our expansive inventory (22,000+ sq. ft. warehouse!) or through personalized service, our goal is to help you achieve the best possible design for your event. Having been established as a leading resource for the events industry throughout the country for fourteen years we’ve seen our fair share of trends come and go, but one thing remains the same: stylish design. That’s where we come in! We asked Fritz Williams, FormDecor’s president, to go over some details about how FormDecor is different and what keeps event industry professionals coming back year after year.

Q. FormDecor’s inventory, arguably our strongest feature, is centered around mid-century and modern pieces. Does specializing in a specific style or design help or hinder business?

A. It’s definitely been helpful. First and foremost, I want to be passionate about the products we’ve built our company around, and I can do that with mid-century modern designs. Secondly, 70% of our inventory are authentic and original rentals carefully curated throughout our collection process. While other businesses may find success in offering traditional or run-of-the-mill rentals, we embrace a particular aesthetic and use that to our advantage. We want to be different and offer our clients the opportunity to be creative in their designs by utilizing rare and unique items. That doesn’t mean that we only have Mies van der Rohe and LeCorbusier rentals, we do stay on top of fashion trends so often you’ll see us renting glamorous Hollywood Regency styles or even modern and modular pieces. It’s all based on the needs of our clients!

Q. Here’s a big question: Isn’t it best for furniture rental vendors to diversify and offer event planning and producing services? It seems like it would be an easier opportunity to gain traction in the market.

A. Because of economic trends this was something that a good many vendors were opting to do over the last few years, but having been established in the industry for over 14 years, is something we never felt the need to do. We’re here for one specific reason: to rent iconic furniture. Whether that’s to a tv/film production or special event (think after-party, or VIP Lounge) doesn’t matter; FormDecor specializes in personalized event furniture rental. What does this mean for the planner or producer? It means that we’re not competing on bids for jobs. We’re here as a resource, not a competitor for your business.

Q. Who are some of FormDecor’s larger clients? What makes a high-end client pick FormDecor?

A. It wouldn’t really be fair to those clients to answer that! If you request confidentiality, we guarantee confidentiality. From unbranded delivery (and yes, we’ve had that request quite often), to complete confidentiality and NDA’s, we’re here for the client in every aspect. While other companies may require you to use their logistics division, we offer our clients the opportunity to use their own in-house solutions if they are more comfortable and require the anonymity. In fact, oftentimes vendors will cross-rent from us to take advantage of our unique items, but we honor our contracts and stay mum.  At the end of the day, FormDecor is not interested in acquiring client information. That’s not the business we are in and we want to remain a customer-orientated, boutique firm.  We look exceptional by making our clients look exceptional. There’s no better publicity we can ask for.

Q. You said the b-word. How is the boutique model sustainable for a furniture rental company?

A. Easier than you’d think! Sometimes we joke, but we never lose sight that FormDecor started with just one chair, an Eames Armshell Chair to be exact.  Wooed by the craftsmanship and aesthetic, it was clear I could build around this chair. I was a collector and I still am, except I’m able to constantly add to our inventory and keep discovering new items to offer our customers. There’s something special about sitting on a piece of history, don’t you think?

The Look: Retro-Futurism

Club Vignette

The idea for this particular vignette comes from our very own graphic designer and warehouse manager. While it never slows down too much at FormDecor, we do like to get creative when the mood strikes and challenge ourselves to create a few tableaus based on some of our more unique items of furniture and décor.  All items pictured are available for rent!

Opting for a club-like lounge setting, Mike and Eric paired multiple untraditional textures and era-specific items to achieve this retro-futurist vibe. Great job, guys!

Land Rover at Modernism Week in Palm Springs

Earlier this year FormDecor had the opportunity to provide furniture for an incredible event during Modernism Week in Palm Springs. Working with OCLA Events, we were able to furnish the Frank Sinatra estate with iconic, chic, and all-white furniture for Land Rover’s Modernism And Me event.

The TATA Group has a wonderful video of the event featuring our furniture. Take a look! Also don’t forget to pick up tickets to Modernism Week’s Fall Preview on sale now!

While it’s not quite 2015, ELLE DECOR has compiled some #protips as to color trends for the next year! Check out some of their color picks below. We couldn’t help but illustrate with some pieces from our very own inventory.

5 Tips To Surviving Comic-Con

While summer can be brutal, summer conventions might straddle the thin line of nightmarish experience coupled with I’ve Made A Huge Mistake. With San Diego Comic-Con right around the corner, we wanted to put together a few survival tips so the intrepid stand a chance at not being overwhelmed.

PMYT-COMICCON-D2-011

  1. Maps: Memorize the layout of San Diego’s Convention Center. Not going to Hall H or Ballroom 20? Steer clear of the area to avoid incredibly long lines and general pandemonium. This is important: Learn your booth number. Stumbling through the chaos that is the show floor while trying to get to your booth can be maddening. Dodging cosplayers, hyper children, hyper adults, and the shell-shocked newbies is not for the faint of heart, so know your surroundings.
  2. Schedules: We can’t stress this enough, but know your schedule. Whether you’re on a specific timetable for your booth or taking a few hours to enjoy the con, remember your schedule and Comic-Con’s schedule as well. If you want to see a specific panel or event, keep in mind that lines generally begin to queue hours in advance.
  3. Water: Stay hydrated. In a mad crush of humans all jostling to occupy the same space, it doesn’t matter if there’s air conditioning. It will be hot. It will be crowded. And you will be thirsty. BYOW.
  4. Shoes: We love those Chuck Taylors as much as you do, but nothing beats good arch support. Pack your freshest pair of kicks and get to walking!
  5. Enjoy Yourself: Ultimately, you’re either at Comic-Con for work, play, or a little bit of both. Take the time to enjoy yourself and marvel at the amazing cosplay, energy, and/or sheer magnitude of the convention.
