The Italian furniture designer Giancarlo Piretti was born in Bologna in 1940. In 1967 Piretti redefined the folding chair with the Giancarlo Piretti Plia Folding Chair. The combination of chrome and transparent lucite paved the way for the Giancarlo Piretti Plia Folding Chair to become a cult object, displayed at MOMA in New York.
